The last week of term is here, and the prep students are super excited about going to the Daradgee Environmental Education Centre excursion, Thursday. I’m sure there will be lots of stories and photos to share on Friday.
The students have worked very hard these past few weeks, completing assessment and Spell-a-thon. This Friday during school parade all Spell-a-thon prizes will be drawn.
Last Friday the students had a fun day outdoors participating in the athletics carnival. Congratulations to every student who participated in running events for their team and cheering on their peers. For the rest of this week students will continue to get organised for term three.
We hope everyone has a relaxing and safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you all in Term Three.
Thank you for your support

Year 1 Capers
Well, we made it to the last week of term!
We would like to thank all of the students for turning up each day ready to face any challenges that awaited them. This cohort are certainly a resilient bunch! We look forward to starting next term fresh, organised resources and recharged batteries.
We would also like to thankyou for you support over the term with helping the children complete home work .
Have a safe and enjoyable holidays. We know we will!
Leigh, Steven and Fiona
Year 2 Capers
Hello, Year 2 Parents and Carers,
We are halfway through the year and our hard work is definitely paying off! All students tried their very best on the end of term assessments and they should be proud of their efforts. We have had so much fun in English learning and writing about some of Australia’s unique and amazing wildlife. I’m sure your child has come home with many weird and wonderful facts! We finished up our Science unit on lifecycles and students were able to describe the stages of their chosen animal with lots of detail.
Next term for English, we will be focusing on writing narratives that will be based on various themes, changing each week. Such as, a circus theme and a pirate theme. We will be learning how to use the language included in these themes throughout our narratives and I’m sure there will be lots of “arrghs” and “ahoys” used.
Science is all about Earth’s natural resources, and the importance of looking after them.
In Humanities and Social Science, we will be investigating changes in technology from past to present. We have our Bee Bots ready for technology next term, which is very exciting! We will be learning how to program robot bees, by giving them directions to travel from one place to another.
Thank you for all your support over this semester and congratulations to all Year 2 students for a wonderful semester of learning!
Kind regards,
Tayla Vandal, Kathy Pike and Jeanette Spataro
Year 3 Capers
As the term comes to a close, our assessment period has finally wrapped up.
In Math, we will continue to review the concepts that students found challenging on their tests. This includes place value and problem-solving skills.
In English, we are focusing on writing procedures and how to do so effectively.
On Friday, we will hold our Spell-a-thon assembly at 9:00am in the hall. Congratulations to the students who achieved a perfect score!
Throughout the week, we will be sending home stationery slips for those who need their supplies replenished. We will also send home hats this week. Please ensure they are washed over the holidays and returned on the first day of Term 3. Report cards will be distributed on Thursday for students to take home. We wish you a safe and happy holiday. See you in Term 3!
Best regards,
Ashley, Janelle, Leigh, and Amanda
Year 4 Capers
Well, here we are – the end of Term 2! We can’t believe we are halfway through Year 4!
We had an amazing time last week at our Athletics morning on Wednesday and then our Athletics Carnival on Friday. It was great to see so many students participating and having a fun time. We are proud of everyone’s behaviour on the day too 😊 Thanks to all of the families who were able to attend and show their support.
A few reminders:
Can you please ensure all Library books are returned this week.
Students have brought home their ‘I have, I need’ forms so please look into re-stocking their supplies if necessary for the start of Term 3.
We are busy organising our excursion to the Cairns Aquarium for Term 3. Keep an eye out on Dojo for further information.
We hope you have a restful, fun and safe school holidays.
Kind regards,
Miss Jade Reitano and Mrs Jenna Sulter
Year 5 Capers
We are officially half way through the year! It has been such a great start to the year, with many fun events. From school camp to sports carnivals, the year is flying by. Keep an eye out for report cards being sent home as we have been working hard to complete all assessment. It has been amazing to see the high standard of effort from all students.
As we head into the holidays, please check with your child that they have everything they need to be a successful learner. Enough work books, pencils, red pens, a ruler, just to name a few. Please try to ensure they have everything they need to focus on their learning.
We hope you all have a fun and relaxing break and look forward to seeing you all next term for a busy Term 3!
Kayla Hutchins, Rebecca Nolan and Rhonda O’Brien
Year 6 Capers
Hello from Year 6!
We have all collectively made it to the end of term! We would like to thank our students for the effort they put in through our assessment period, and to the families at home who have supported these efforts. Assessment can be a gruelling time and can be stressful for some. It was pleasing to see resilience, hard work, and studying, pay off.
As we enter the holidays our message is for everyone to stay as safe as possible. We should be wearing our helmet when riding our bike or skateboard, taking care when swimming with our friends, and working together to have fun safely. We have spoken in our classrooms about the importance of being careful around train lines as well. This is a time to recharge, reset, and get ready for Term 3.
Please ask your child if they need any extra supplies for Term 3. Many students don’t have stationery items like pencils, erasers and whiteboard markers, all of which we use on a daily basis. All students were asked to write a list of any stationery they have run out of, so if you haven’t seen this list yet, ask your child to show you. We are also low on tissues! If you haven’t contributed any tissue boxes yet this year, or if your child tells you that they use a lot of extra tissues in class (some students tend to use a lot more tissues than others), please send in a box or two (or three!) as well.
We hope everyone has a fun and relaxing holiday, and we look forward to the 8th of July, when we come back. That first week is also a short week, with the Public Holiday for the Innisfail Show on Friday.
Nathan Worth, Melanie Worth, and Janette McClelland (filling in for Anita Knight this week).
L.O.T.E News
By speaking, writing, listening to new words, phrases, sentences and questions in Italian, years 5 and 6 Italian classes at Goondi State School have furthered their knowledge of the Italian language.
Year 5 students have worked well this term learning to respond to questions about themselves with their teacher. I am pleased with the effort that they have made to learn and understand.
Year 6 students have continued to develop their understanding of talian and have worked well examining their daily school routine. They have learnt to use images to help them understand this topic and have expanded their knowledge of nouns and verbs.
Continue encouraging your child to speak Italian with you and discuss what they are learning.
