Goondi SS T2 Week 2 Newsletter
From Leadership
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and all our students are excited for another busy term ahead.
ANZAC COMMEMORATION – Today, Goondi State School held its annual school ANZAC Commemoration. Mrs Long worked with our Year 6 students to deliver a respectful and moving service. We thank our special guests for honouring us with their presence and we congratulate our students for their exemplary conduct – they did a fantastic job in running the service and spoke exceptionally well.
Tomorrow (Thursday 25th April) we will take part in the ANZAC day march in Innisfail. Please ensure all students attending the march are dressed in their full school uniform, including their school hat. We will meet at 9:30am, in front of the Innisfail RSL where we will represent our school with pride and respect, as we remember those fallen servicemen and women who have given us the chance to enjoy today’s freedoms.
Year 5 leadership camp will take place from Monday the 29th of April to Wednesday 1st of May in Week 3. All year 5 students will be attending, along with our teachers Mrs Nolan and Miss Hutchins and parent helpers Mr Evan Coppin and Mr Michael Blair. Mrs Kaitara and Ms Mohammed will also be present at camp, at different times. We look forward to hearing all about the adventures that take place, in the next Newsletter.
Pre Prep – We are busy organising our PREP transition program for 2024. If your child will be commencing PREP next year or if you know of anyone planning on enrolling at Goondi State School, please contact the school for an enrolment pack and to organise an interview.
P/T Meetings – If you were unable to meet with your child’s teacher last term, please contact them with any questions you may have and to organise a suitable meeting time.
P&C – Our Spell-a-thon takes place this term and all students in P-6 participate. Spelling lists and sponsorship envelopes will be sent home in the next few weeks. As you may already be aware, this is a large fundraising event for our P&C. Our newly formed P&C have also resurrected Tuckshop – with over 140 orders in their first week. Please support our P&C as they work hard to ensure Goondi SS continues to thrive.
ROAD SAFETY – A reminder to all our parents and carers to remain aware of road safety at school drop off and pick up times. It is essential that we teach and model safe conduct around road traffic, by always using the school crossing and never allowing children to walk between parked cars at these busy times of the day.
Please also consider other road users at the busy afternoon pick up time. There are many unused car park spaces by the northern oval. It only takes a minute to walk back to the pick-up gate. We thank you all for your co-operation, as we place the safety of our students as top priority.
Under 8’s celebration will be held on Tuesday 21st May (Week 6). Innisfail Young Performers Competition will take place during Week 8. Prep parent information session is schedule for Wednesday 12th June (Week 9). Spell-a-thon money is due in Week 9. Athletics Carnival on Friday 14th June (Week 9). HOTSHOTS – Week 10
Further information about these events will be sent out in the coming weeks.
We look forward to seeing our students’ kicking goals throughout the term!
Kind Regards, Mrs Kaitara and Ms Mohammed

By speaking, writing, listening to new words, phrases, sentences and questions in Italian, years 5 and 6 Italian classes at Goondi State School are furthering their knowledge of the Italian language. Well done students!
Year 5 students are revising previous questions about themselves and learning how to answer the question Dove abiti? (Where do you live?). Year 6 students are learning about Le parti del giorno (The parts of the day) in Italian. They are using images to help them understand how to describe the parts of the day, expanding their knowledge of nouns and verbs. All students are also learning songs to enhance their pronunciation.
The bookwork standard shown in their exercise books is pleasing. Feedback and assistance is given to students regularly. Continue encouraging your child to speak Italian with you and discuss what they are learning.
Arrivederci (Goodbye)
