GSS Newsletter 31.01.2024
From the Leadership Team
I would like to personally welcome our new and returning families to Goondi State School for the 2024 school year.
We had a wonderful start to the school year, with students meeting old and new friends on the first day of school and making connections with new staff while settling into their new classrooms for the year.
Careful consideration has gone into creating classes that are balanced, both academically and socially. Our classes are structured to provide equity at each year level. Thank you for helping your child to understand that it is not possible to place all students with preferred teachers or select friends. All staff work hard every day to provide a positive experience for all of our students. It can take a number of weeks to acclimatise to a new year level, teacher and teaching environment.
A reminder that if students are arriving at school between 8:00am-8:30am in Years 1-6, they are to make their way to the hall and Prep students are to make their way to the Prep undercover area, during this time. Breakfast Club runs 5 days a week and we have a small range of healthy food items i.e., toast, fruit etc.
So that your child settles into the new year’s routines, we ask that every effort be made to arrive at school before the school bell, which sounds at 8:45am, so students are ready to commence learning at this time.
The first few weeks of school are important in setting the tone and expectations for the year to come. Every effort should be made to ensure all students come to school every day. This is a crucial time in developing relationships with new staff and new friends.
Mrs Kaitara is on leave until 6th of March, 2024. During this time, I (Ms Mohammed) will be acting Principal and Mrs Long will be acting in the Deputy Principal role.
I thank all of our parents and carers for your continued support of the school and in preparing your children for the new school year.
Kind Regards,
Khadeeja Mohammed

Saluti (Greetings)
It is a pleasure to be at Goondi State School teaching students Italian in years 5 and 6 this year. Welcome back to those students who were taking Italian last year. Welcome to those students learning Italian this year for the first time.
In our Italian lessons we will be starting the year learning some Italian songs. Year 5 students are learning a simple greeting song, Ciao Buongiorno. Year 6 students are learning Benvenuti, a welcome song. Ask your child to sing a song to you! Songs are excellent ways to build confidence and improve pronunciation when learning another language.
Exercise books will be collected regularly and feedback provided. Encourage your child to speak Italian with you and discuss what they are learning!
Arrivederci (Goodbye)
