Goondi SS Newsletter 19.07.2023
From the Leadership Team
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 3! This term we are looking froward to a number of events including NAIDOC, Book Week, Poetry Idol, Challenge Games, swimming and the Year 4 excursion to the Cairns Aquarium.
Please note: Student Free day is Week 8 the 1st of September
Save the date: Goondi State School is celebrating 125 years of schooling on Saturday the 4th of November. All community members welcome to attend our weekly meetings on Tuesday held in the library at 3:30pm.
First off the rank is our Athletics Carnival, occurring on Monday 24th July, followed by our Inter-School Athletics Carnival next Wednesday and Friday where representatives from a number of schools across our Cluster will take part in the range of athletics events to secure a place in the District team to represent at Peninsula. A BBQ, tea/coffee and cakes will be available thanks to the P&C on Friday the 28th of July.
Our students have settled back in to school well after the recent holidays and are now getting down to business with lessons and activities crafted by our skilled teachers.
If you were able to visit the local Innisfail show, I hope you had the opportunity to view our spectacular school display. Many examples of quality work and creativity were on show from our Goondi students and it certainly showed the standard our teachers expect form every student in all year levels, across a range of learning areas. Congratulations to everyone involved and a huge thank you to Ms Rosa for her efforts.
We are in the process of reviewing our School Uniform Policy. Please note: Jeans are not part of the School Uniform, however long black or dark blue slacks are acceptable. The new policy document will be shared with you soon.
Kind regards,
Tania Kaitara and Khadeeja Mohammed

LOTE News
By speaking, writing, listening to new words, phrases and sentences in Italian, years 5 and 6 Italian classes at Goondi State School are furthering their knowledge of the Italian language. Well done students!
Year 5 students are learning adjectives and nouns in Italian using teacher-developed tables. They are using this knowledge in simple sentences with verbs. Year 6 students are building on their vocabulary by learning teacher-developed tables to understand nouns, verbs and adjectives. Students are using singular and plural examples of nouns and adjectives. Students in Italian classes are also listening to songs to enhance fluency.
The bookwork standard shown in their exercise books is pleasing. Feedback and assistance is given to students regularly. Continue encouraging your child to speak Italian with you and discuss what they are learning.
Arrivederci (Goodbye)
